MANILA – In the wake of the loss of a huge amount of money under the safekeeping of the United States Federal Reserve Bank in New York, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is now looking to smoke out the culprits behind the hacking of US$81 million from the account of Bangladesh Bank and illegally transferring the money through Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) to several casinos in Manila.
In an interview Friday, U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg confirmed that his countries law enforcement authorities have intervened. “Because the Federal Reserve Bank of New York had some involvement, we, too, are looking into it, our law enforcement people.”
However, Goldberg declined to share more details on how the ongoing investigation is being carried out.
Goldberg did not deny or confirm if the FBI agents handling the case are now in the Philippines, but clarified that U.S. authorities are closely working with their counterparts here in Manila. “Clearly, there is an interest from the US enforcement side, as well. We have interest in this,” Goldberg said. For the full article click here
