Hackers take down key Canadian systems

Days after U.S. government sites were broken into, federal government websites from Canada were hacked and turned black. Government-run websites like the weather, public service and parliament sites were offline for hours before finally being restored. But the crazy thing is that someone (well a group of people) has already taken responsibility for it.

The global hacking group Anonymous claimed that it was responsible for the attack through a YouTube video. This has not yet been verified by Canadian officials. The video explains that the hacking was in retaliation for an anti-terrorism bill that was passed through the Canadian House of Commons.“We launched an attack against Canadian Senate and Government of Canada websites in protest against the recent passing of Bill C-51,” declared the disguised voice in the video. The voice continued, “(C-51) is a clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as removing our legal protections that have stood enshrined in the Magna Carta for 800 years.”
