Hackers leak personal data of 32M Ashley Madison customers

Hackers who targeted cheating spouses’ Web site AshleyMadison.com have followed through on a threat to publish online a huge swath of customer data that they stole a month ago, several technology sites reported Tuesday.

The data was posted on what is known as the “Dark Web” — a part of the Internet that can be accessed only by using a specialized browser — although a large list of hundreds of e-mail addresses popped up on other sites shortly after the news broke.

The hackers, who call themselves The Impact Team, posted account details and credit-card information for some 32 million users of the site designed to help married people cheat on their spouses, according to the tech Web site Wired.
