Heritage Foundation hit by hackers: report

Conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation reportedly had personal information about donors taken in a data breach this week.

A spokesman for the group told Politico that “six-year-old documents on an external server” were breached, adding that they are notifying the donors whose information may have been compromised.

“Our internal servers were not part of this breach and we have taken — and will continue to take — all appropriate steps to ensure that our members have the ability to support public policy organizations free from intimidation,” the spokesman said.

The federal government is spending at least $500 million to boost fraud protection services for the victims of recent government hacks. A data breach at the Office of Personnel Management earlier this year compromised millions of worker personnel files.
