A while back, I had my PayPal account hacked and later closed the account. I will never know the behind-the-curtain sequence of events that lead to my monetary loss. I do know I had security protections in place that failed.
Our government must have the most sophisticated protections on its computer networks and servers.
Then-Sen. Hillary Clinton was on the Armed Services Committee for eight years. This Senate committee is empowered with legislative oversight of the nation’s military, including the Department of Defense and top secret research and development projects. As such, she dealt with classified material daily and knew the physical and electronic security in place.
As a 28-year retired Army officer, I held a Top Secret/CosMec/Atomal classification. Violation of procedures is dealt with swiftly and results in demotions, fines or jail time. She knew the effort it took to protect critical information.
It is becoming clear that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did her professional and personal business on an unsecure server for many years. Her responsibility touched all government agencies, most foreign governments and Fortune 500 companies.
In June 2015, Office of Personnel Management announced a major breach had occurred and 22 million people inside and outside government likely had their personal information stolen. This cyber-breach had been going on for years.
Chinese hackers were suspected in Febuary 2015, health insurance giant Anthem spokesperson said they discovered a cyber-attack that compromised the personal information of tens of millions of customers They have responsibility for Department of Defense and Obamacare clients. This cyber-breach also had been going on for years. State-sponsored Chinese hackers were suspected.
In 2013, JPMorgan reported on the system attack, which ultimately compromised some account information for 83 million households and small businesses. The bank’s security experts and the Federal Bureau of Investigation feared the attack was from Russia. We may never know for sure.
Six weeks ago, a hacker group claiming to be affiliated with the terror organization ISIS posted emails, passwords and phone numbers of hundreds of military members, and urged terrorists to carry out attacks.
It is now clear Secretary of State Clinton was conducting official business on a non-government, privately maintained email server — in lieu of secured federal government servers.
This went on for nine years! This decision needlessly left our country vulnerable to worldwide hackers, as they break into the State Department network and beyond.
Officials from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and some members of Congress have contended that her use of that private messaging system violated State Department protocols and procedures, and Federal laws and regulations governing record keeping requirements. Many of the emails in question are being made public for the United States House Select Committee on Benghazi, the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI.
Mishandling classified emails is important, but I believe Hillary Clinton’s unprotected server in the middle of the mass worldwide network of spies, hackers and terrorist is the main danger.
I also believe that security and financial problems are just beginning. Connect the dots to see how a reckless decision made by one person can affect our national security and millions of our population.
I believe investigations will discover the truth and then let then justice system act.
