Hackers upload data and source code of crowdfunding website Patreon online

Crowdfunding website Patreon last Wednesday shared that its data was stolen along with source code. Now, the hackers have dumped the user data and website source code online. In nearly 14 GB downloading files, information about 2.3 million Patreon users has been leaked online. Patreon data includes user emails, addresses and their conversations.

Patreon hacking incident is one of the latest in massive data breaches at online platforms. Patreon informed its users about data breach but announced that the data regarding credit card, social security numbers and other confidential details were not leaked in the current breach as they were on a different server.

The hackers were able to gain access to Patreon’s webserver and have stolen database and website files. This suggests that the hacking was not committed using SQL injection, a popular technique to get into database. Patreon co-founder and CEO Jack Conte said, “I take our creators’ and patrons’ privacy very seriously. It is our team’s mission to help creators get paid for the immeasurable value they provide to all of us, and earning your trust to provide that service in a safe and secure way is Patreon’s highest priority. Again, I sincerely apologize for this breach, and the team and I are making every effort to prevent something like this from happening in the future.”For the full article click here
