A DDoS attack targeting ProtonMail, an encrypted email provider, has caused the company to pay 15 bitcoin or $6,000 to hackers. Even though 2016 has been pegged at the year of online extortion, it may have started a bit sooner.
The company described the attack at “quite unprecedented in size and scope.” The attack came from a group working out of Switzerland and ProtonMail believed it came from two groups, not just one.
In order to combat DDoS attacks, ProtonMail has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000. This campaign will allow them to cover the cost of DDoS protection. For the full article click here
