Well, it had to happen eventually — a ransomware attack against Apple Macintosh computers took place last week.
The attack could have been much worse, and it was found and quashed pretty quickly, but now the horse is out of the barn and Mac users have to start thinking seriously about protecting their computers.
I’m sure my Windows-using friends and readers are knowingly shaking their heads.

Hackers uploaded installers infected with the ransomware called KeRanger to the servers of a BitTorrent client named Transmission.
For a short time last week, people who thought they were downloading a new version of Transmission found themselves infected with KeRanger as well. The infection was found and documented by researchers at Palo Alto Networks.
The KeRanger-infected installers were signed with a valid Mac app development certificate, which enabled it to bypass Apple’s Gatekeeper protection. For the full article click here
