You would think three security questions would be enough to protect your identity and bank account from online hackers right? I mean, how could some random hackers know your mother’s maiden name, your pet’s name, or your favorite sports team, right? This stuff is personal, and some of your closets friends or colleagues don’t even know the answers.
Welp, it’s a lot easier than you would imagine, according to Steve Weisman, a lawyer, leading expert in scams and identity theft, and author of Theft Alert. Between social media, where hackers can scan your accounts for clues to these answers, and phishing emails where hackers can trick you into providing the answers to these questions, or steal the information stored on your device, it’s not that difficult to put the pieces of the puzzle together, Weisman explained on USAToday.com.
In order to protect yourself, Weisman shared a super easy trick that will make it almost impossible for hackers to crack your security questions. “The best way to dramatically improve the strength of your security question is to use a nonsensical answer when you set up the account,” he explains. “For instance, if the security question is what is your mother’s maiden name, make your answer something ludicrous, such as ‘grapefruit.’ This is an answer that no identify thief will ever find and it is silly enough to make it easy to remember.” For the full article click here
