Civic hackers inviting public to help ‘take over’ downtown wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A group of hackers are taking over downtown Wichita this weekend for a “hackathon” and they want the public to join in on the event.

“We call ourselves a civic hacking group,” said Open Wichita Founder Seth Etter.

Etter and his team will be out in full force on Saturday and Sunday at Wichita’s Riverfest as they hold the city’s first ever Hackathon.

“We are trying to come up with creative solutions to problems in the city,” Etter said.

An online community discussion board is already full of ideas for the event. One person wants to create an app to notify city officials of graffiti around town.

Another person wants an app that will connect people to shelter and food services in town. While one person wants a real-time crime app. For the full article click here
