Computers are powerful tools that can expand horizons for everyone. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who use that potential to make innocent people pay.
Since last December, the incidents involving attack programs called ransomware have gone up by more than 50 percent across the country. These programs come in the form of viruses that can cause a wide variety of problems for PCs including allowing hackers direct access to personal computers, steal information and locking down computers.
“Cryptolocker is a virus you get via email or entering a bad website, and it goes through all the files on your computer and makes you unable to open or use them,” said Brian Kopp, a computer network technician for Yankton Computer & Network Services. “Then the person who sent the virus says they will unlock your computer for the right price.” For the full article click here
