Hackers are a growing problem for gas stations nationwide, and many have been targeted.
According to research by Security Week, over 5,000 gas stations in the United States have been hacked.
Executives at Tulsa-based QuikTrip said they are aware of the issue and are staying ahead of the game to keep hackers at bay.
Driver Nicole Brown said she is shocked that hackers are targeting gas stations.
“It makes me scared to use my card at the pump,” Brown said.
However, it’s not just a credit card the hackers are after. Many stations use a device to monitor fuel levels and temperature, and it alerts operators when a problem arises. Experts say the devices can be accessed by hackers to do a lot of damage.
