Hackers reportedly stole credit card data from numerous Hilton hotel properties

Hilton Worldwide confirmed it is investigating a report that claimed a large number of point-of-sale devices at gift shops and restaurants within its hotels across the USA have been hacked, amid indications the incident may have begun as early as a year ago.

Hilton Worldwide is looking into claims of a substantial credit card breach after independent security researcher and journalist Brian Krebs broke the news this weekend.

MEXICO CITY • Thousands of people marched in Mexico City on Saturday to mark the first anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students in a case involving corrupt police that has haunted President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Krebs” investigation is based on “multiple sources’ in the banking industry who noticed a steady pattern of fraudulent credit card transactions across Hilton properties.

The Hilton Hotel franchise has reportedly become the latest victim of a cyberattack with hackers stealing credit card data.

Krebs added in his blog that sources from five different banks say that all the cards mentioned in the alert were used at Hilton properties.

The alert said cards were attacked between April 21 and July 27, 2015. This alert indicated that some Visa cards may have been compromised.

“It remains unclear how many Hilton properties may be affected by this apparent breach”.

Krebs has a statement from the Hilton organisation in which the firm defended its security practices, and revealed that it is aware of the potential problem and is looking into it. This is a common theme among the breached, and should soon become part of mission statements. A company spokesman said: “We have many systems in place and work with some of the top experts in the field to address data security”.
