How hackers can access iPhone contacts and photos without a password

YouTube user EverythingApplePro on Sunday published a video detailing an easy way to gain access to the photos and contact information saved on an iPhone or iPad if the device is running iOS 9. While the vast majority is super excited about Apple’s recently released iOS 9 software, and with good reason, there’s a darker aspect we should really take into account when considering whether or not we should update to the new version. This activated Siri, at which point he asked “her” for the time. The photos, for instance, are exposed when navigating to add a new contact. It can be done by accessing touch ID and pass code option under the settings menu. You’ll now be able to see the entire photo library on the iOS device, which is still locked with a passcode. Bradford City 0 Peterborough 2 Bantams suffer Valley Parade defeat Bradford City In general terms, the bug allows you to bypass the lock screen by entering an incorrect passcode several times and then asking Siri to open the clock app. To exploit the bug, would-be hackers repeatedly mash the numbers on the passcode screen until the iPhone threatens to lock the user out. On his Twitter account, Rodriguez notes the claimed vulnerability still works in iOS 9.0.1, released earlier this week, and says the only way to protect yourself is by disabling Siri from the lock screen. Besides exposing those potentially incriminating selfies, this flaw is also bad if you don’t want anyone sending text messages in your name. Have you updated your Apple device to iOS 9 yet? Now you’ll be protected when someone tries this sleuth-like tactic on your iPhone. This hack comes days after French security firm Zerodium announced a total of $3m bounty rewards for iOS exploits and jailbreaks until October 31 – but the condition is the attacker must be able to remotely compromise a non-jailbroken iOS device.
