With technology on the rise, there are many people who are using it for constructive purposes and are working towards the development of the tech of the future.
Smartphones have truly made life simpler and easier than ever before and with the arrival of smartphone technology the power of knowledge has come down to our finger tips and we can access any data we want right from our mobile screens.
However, with rise in any form of technology intending towards a better future, there are always a bunch of people who are looking towards causing some nuisance, some trouble.
These are the modern day malicious hackers. These hackers have now found a bug in iPhones where the users iPhone would crash when they will receive a certain message. This message has to be sent to their phone via text messaging.
It happens due ot a glitch in Apple’s iOS, which basically makes the iPhone/iPad to crash and reboot when a specially crafted non-Latin script is sent in a text message to the owner.
This trick was first discovered by a group of Reddit users, who discovered a unique bug in Apple’s iOS system, which involved sending a certain text message to the iPhone/iPad and send his/her iPhone/iPad crashing or rebooting.
“effective. Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗”
Sending this code to the iPhone/iPad users would mean that you would crash their devices if they see this message anywhere on their screen, not just in the messaging window but even in the notifications panel.
As soon as your receive this text, you get a banner alert notification on the lockscreen of the iPhone/iPad or iPod Touch. The iOS then would then try to shorten the text with an ellipsis.
If the ellipsis is placed in the middle of a set of non-Latin script characters, including Arabic, Marathi and Chinese, it causes the system to crash and the phone to reboot.
This hack is achieved only by a correct placement of characters and ellipses. One needs to place the characters and ellipses in a specific manner to have the OS crashed, it won’t even recover upon reboot.
The real threat however, comes from the black hat hackers, who are probably looking forward to turn this into some kind of vector to attack the iPhone users.
However, there is a very easy solution to fix this bug:This is because when you get no notifications there would be nothing to have the ellipses match around with to crash the OS. The Apple watch is however, unaffected by this bug.
