Beware of cyber scams, hackers while shopping online during the holidays

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTBS) –

When it’s all said and done, Cyber Monday is expected to garner over $2.5 billion dollars in sales – and that’s just in the U.S.

You’ve probably been getting promotional emails from retailers for weeks. But with every click – and every purchase – you open yourself up to cyber criminals.

Experts estimate cyber crime to be up 23 percent from last year, which means scammers and thieves are working harder than ever to turn your holiday into a headache.

“I think there’s some reality in the notion that we’re a little less secure than we used to be.”

Kirsten Hoyt is the Dean for the College of Information Systems and Technology at University of Phoenix.

She says cyber criminals are smart, often using what appear to be emails from your favorite stores or financial institution to lure you in. For the full article click here
