Wearables sensor data can give hackers your PIN

WEARABLES COULD LEAK your data with more gusto than a threesome between Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and a Sony PSN hack, thanks to sensors offering tempting attack vectors for hackers.

Research conducted by the Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology found that savvy hackers could use data from smartwatch and fitness trackers to analyse hand movements and gather key entry sequences on different types of keyboard.

The researchers were able to crack PINs and passwords with 80 per cent accuracy on the first try.

Hackers could use a wireless packet sniffer to capture data sent between the Bluetooth connection between wearables and a smartphone, or install malware onto either device to pick up sensor data and send it back to the attacker.  For the full article click here
